Jason Aldean Opens ‘SNL’ With Tribute To Las Vegas Shooting Victims By Singing Tom Petty Song

Jason Aldean was performing on-stage at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas when a barrage of shots rang out. Aldean was able to run off stage and avoid gunfire during the Las Vegas shooting. Not everyone was so lucky. The massacre claimed the lives of 59 and wounded over 500 people. Aldean made a surprise guest appearance and opened this week’s episode of Saturday Night Live.

The country music star performed a Tom Petty song as a tribute to the victims of the shooting and as a way to honor the death of the legendary singer who died this week. Aldean performed the Tom Petty classic “I Won’t Back Down” in the SNL cold open.
