Ever since “Top Gun” came out in 1986, the high-flying flick has inspired generations of Americans to want to rule the skies as a death-defying pilot of some of the most advanced aircraft that is on the planet. A reporter for Vice News was lucky enough to skip the Top Gun school at NAS Miramar to be able to sit in the cockpit of an F-16 with a skilled stunt pilot from the U.S. Air Force’s elite Thunderbirds.
After some basic training on how to deal with the gut-wrenching g-forces, he was sitting shotgun in one of the fastest and most evasive aircraft in the world. The fighter jet took off from Atlantic City and went from 500 mph on the runway to 12,000-feet in the air in a mind-blowing 3-4 seconds. As the g-forces smashed into his abdomen, the F-16 did four rolls, which caused the reporter to puke his brains out. After a few more stunts, he vomited a second time. He called the experience the greatest ab workout, plus it’s great for losing weight when you’re puking up your lunch every 10 minutes.
