Dave Matthews Band Covers The Grateful Dead’s ‘Friend Of The Devil’ On The 4th Of July

One part circus, one part a musical celebration of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness,  The Grateful Dead are and will always be one of America’s all-time great rock bands. With the band playing its final shows in Chicago this weekend, many musical acts are offering nods in tribute. During last night’s 4th of July show at SPAC in upstate New York, the Dave Matthews Band covered The Dead’s “Friend Of The Devil” with Bela Fleck sitting in on banjo.

This isn’t the first Dave has covered The Dead. 20 years ago Dave did a rendition of “Eyes Of The World” as a nod to Jerry Garcia two days after his passing.
