Crossovers are so hot right now. Lincoln jumps in the crossover party with the impressive-looking Aviator concept that goes heavy on the tech and luxury. The Aviator concept is the middle-sized of Lincoln’s SUVs; with the MKX as the smaller option and the Navigator is the larger model. The plug-in hybrid arrives in 2019, but Lincoln teased the Aviator at the 2018 New York International Auto Show.
The brand new Lincoln Aviator definitely gives off some Range Rover vibes on the exterior. The interior is a sea of leather with three rows of seating. Splashes of shiny metal on the speaker grilles and metallic console draw the eyes. Glossy black touches on the dashboard and the doors break up the tan interior.
The Aviator will feature the company’s Co-Pilot360, which Ford calls “the most advanced suite of standard driver-assist technologies among full-line brands. The Aviator will also boast a new Suspension Preview Technology that has a camera monitoring the road ahead and adjusting depending on upcoming conditions.
For those who hate carrying around keys will love that the Aviator will allow drivers to use their smartphone as their car keys. You’ll be able to unlock doors, start your car, and more. The phone uses the Lincoln Way app to control the Aviator. Let’s hope you don’t get hacked.
The Aviator is available with a biturbo V6 and is also Lincoln’s first plug-in hybrid vehicle. Lincoln claims that the Aviator is “mightier than many supercars on the road today.” Exact specs, range, and price for Lincoln’s mid-sized SUV were not disclosed. While the Aviator is a concept, Lincoln said the vehicle is definitely happening and the model presented at the NY Auto Show was a “teaser” version.
