Alex Morgan’s header sends USA into gold medal game

by 6 years ago

Alex Morgan just sent the USWNT into the gold medal match with a header in extra time. The goal, courtesy of an excellent cross from Heather O’Reilly came in the 122nd minute of play in a wild one between the U.S. and Canada.

Christine Sinclair finished with a hat trick for a Canadian squad that blew three separate one-goal leads. If not for a questionable handball call late in regulation, the Canadians and not the U.S. would have moved on to play Japan.

But alas, Morgan and the U.S. showed their resolve in extra time as they continually applied pressure on the Canadian defense. The gold medal game is scheduled for Thursday, August 9th at 2:45 pm in a rematch of the World Cup final.
