Like many publishers these days, Ubisoft wants you to purchase a season pass for Assassin’s Creed 3, which will net you a whole mess of DLC at a discounted price. 25% off to be exact. With the highlight here being “The Tyranny of King George.” Also known here as “Evil George Washington.”
In total, the season pass will provide access to five downloadable content packs for $29.99. This includes the obligatory multiplayer maps, but the most interesting bit is a sizable single player mission that offers an alternate take on American history.
As if members of the Knights Templar, using a VR simulator to send a bartender back in time to relieve the memories of family members, who were there for pivotal moments in human civilization, wasn’t already playing around with the facts as is. According to Ubi’s press release:
As the revolution comes to a close, a new and most unexpected enemy emerges. Driven by the desire to secure the fate of the colonies, the greatest hero of the revolution, George Washington, succumbs to the temptation of infinite power. The new King is born and his reign leaves no one untouched. To return freedom to the land our new hero must dethrone a tyrant he once called friend.
Call me a blithering idiot Assassin’s Creed fanboy, but that kind of sounds cool to me! And if you feel the same way, be sure to check out Kotaku‘s explanation as to why an evil George Washington is not the wackiest idea in the world after-all (spoilers: it’s all due to the Freemasons).
By the way, for those who haven’t seen it yet, here’s the game’s take on the Boston Tea Party. Given Ubi’s skewed take on actual history, I am dying to see (and play) their revised version…
