Ridley Scott’s obviously not getting enough attention for Prometheus. He wants all the attention. Rumors of another movie set in the universe of Blade Runner have been circulating for over a year, and this weekend saw a tasty dollop of new information come our way. So here’s what we know.
The movie is a sequel in the truest sense of the word, coming after the events of the first film (which took place in 2019). Since the original film was released in 1982 (thirty painful years ago), it’s still up in the air whether any of the original cast will return. Confirmed behind the camera are director Ridley Scott and original writer Hampton Fancher, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Harrison Ford, who played replicant hunter Rick Deckard in the original, is so far not involved in the sequel, so Scott has commented that he plans to “definitely feature a female protagonist.” Who that will be is still up in the air.
Are you psyched? I’m psyched. The original Blade Runner is one of the most influential and visually stunning sci-fi films ever made. More can only be a good thing.
