If you’re a child of the ’80s, you probably still have a bunch of cassettes sitting around. And some cassettes are so rare that they’re unlikely to ever turn up on iTunes or Amazon. That said, transferring tapes to digital format can be tricky.
Which is where this handy converter comes in.
It’s designed to both look like a Walkman and function pretty much like one. Stick your iPod Touch or iPhone into the dock, stick a cassette into the player, and then press play. The free app handles the recording process. You can also hook it up to a computer and transfer the files that way, if you’d prefer.
There’s one big tradeoff, of course: You’re going to get all the fidelity of a cassette tape, which means pops, hisses and white noise. That can be good or bad, depending on your feelings about fidelity, or the boring music arguments you feel like getting into.
It’s a bit of a specialty item, but it’s also the easiest version of cassette transfer that I’ve seen. And it’s fairly cheap, too, running only $80.
So if you’ve got some old cassettes, you can now transfer them. And trick your friends into thinking you’ve switched back to a Walkman.
