John Miles and his dog Lucy were going for a leisurely walk when they were both struck by a car. John blacked out and then Lucy rallied herself to save the day.
An injured Lucy willed herself over to a nearby doctor’s office and barked until someone heard her cries. She then worked her way back to where John was, still unconscious on the ground, and stayed with him until help came.
The video from Boston CBS affiliate WBZ will warm your heart and blow your mind:
Ever the loyal dog, Lucy’s been bummed that her human has been laid up in the hospital since the accident.
“We found out that beagles actually cry, they have tear ducts,” Caitlan Miles, John’s daughter, told WBZ. “So after the accident, when I was home with her, she had tears running down her fur. She is walking around lost without him.”
John’s suffering from two broken legs, a broken arm, and fractures in his face. Lucy is suffering from a torn ACL that will require surgery as well but thankfully both are expected to make a full recovery.
Police will not charge the driver with a crime since he did stop after the unfortunate accident.
This Lucy seems to really be getting things done. Though every time I see a video like this, I start to wonder about my dogs’ competence. Would they be able to help me out if I got hit by a car? Or would they see a squirrel and walk away while I bled to death? I’m really hoping I never find out but I’ve got to admit the curiosity is killing me..just figuratively for now.
