Mike D’Antoni has resigned as head coach of the Knicks. The decision comes after a tumultuous month of March where the team has gone 0-6. At the forefront of D’Antoni’s problems was Carmelo Anthony, who repeatedly voiced his displeasure with the organization and specifically, its coach. Two nights ago, after a loss to the Bulls, rumors swirled that Melo wanted a trade. He’s come out since then and stated emphatically that he wanted to stay in New York. But it was clear even to the most casual of observers that D’Antoni or Anthony had to be shown the door.
D’Antoni just beat them to the punch.
What’s he going to do now? Well, he still has that job as a Top Gun flight instructor. So there’s that.
