Naturally, Kickstarter is being used to fund virtual reality

by 7 years ago

This week’s hottest Kickstarter is the Oculus Rift, a new VR headset designed specifically for video games that has everyone in the industry all hot and bothered.

How much so? Well, just one day in and it’s already met its goal of $250,000 almost four four. As of this writing, it’s at $903,990.

Countless VR headsets have been attempted already, but very few has had this much support from gaming luminaries. Including the men responsible for Half-Life, Gears of War, and Doom. The game even comes with an enhanced copy of DOOM 3 BFG Edition.

The point of the Kickstarter, by the way, is to get it into the hands of as many developers as possible. One reason why similar ventures have failed is because someone makes one and expects everyone to flock to them.

So there’s a very good chance it will succeed, at least early on. Interested? Well, $300 is apparently the cheapest route possible, for a prototype version; the final product will probably cost more, so this is no kids stuff.

If you’re down, here’s the Kickstarter page that you’re looking for.
