Police dogs, much like their partners, are supposed to be hardened to the realities of the job. This dog saying goodbye to his officer who was gunned down while on duty is entirely too moving.
Jason Ellis, a 33-year-old K9 officer, was killed in what Bardstown, Ky. police are calling an “ambush.”
Ellis’s boss, police chief Rick McCubbin, spoke at the funeral of the fallen policeman, saying “I am your chief, Jason, but you’re our hero and you need to know this chief will not stand down.
“Jason, my friend, rest easy. We’ve got it from here.”
It’s a tough story. Here’s hoping the people, and animals, of Bardstown can recover from the heartbreak of Ellis’s loss.
