‘Prometheus’ sequel is happening, of course

Oh, you had questions unanswered at the end of Prometheus? Pay more money, see this new one, maybe we’ll answer them. I liked Prometheus just fine, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t kind of a mess. What with a bunch of footage being left out for the Blu-Ray and Ridley Scott’s purposefully obscure allusions to other events happening, it seemed like just part of a much bigger story. And lo and behold it is.

The Hollywood Reporter has the first break in the story, as Fox has confirmed that production on the sequel has already begun and Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbinder (the only two survivors from the first flick) have signed contracts already. One interesting bit from the article is that the studio and Scott are looking for new writers to pen the script, as Damon Lindelof might not be available. That might turn out to be a good thing, as Lindelof’s post-Lost work has been pretty lousy and it’s fair to say that he’s probably responsible for some of the first film’s flaws.

Ain’t It Cool has some conjecture on what the plot of the second film will be. Paradise, which was also bandied around as the title of the first film, might come into use as the subtitle here, as the plot will probably involve Rapace and Fassbinder’s characters traveling to the homeworld of the Engineers, which Scott has stated in interviews is “not a nice place.” Insiders are pegging Prometheus 2 to hit theaters in late 2014 or early 2015. That seems like so far away!
