Normally I wouldn’t post an April Fools joke 2 days later. Yesterday’s video about beer with bull testicles was pushing it, but now it’s just ridiculous right? Too bad. This Schlafly Titanium ad is too good to pass on.
This is a simple spoof video for a non-existent beer, but it makes some entertaining points about the current state of beer geeks and rare beers. Breweries love making limited run beers, but instead of just locals getting them, people travel hundreds of miles to wait in line for the chance to buy it. If they can’t, it’s off to eBay to pay a fortune for one.
If you look around at the people buying these rare beers, most of them believe they are the most hardcore beer fan and they are more than happy to tell you how much more intelligent they are about the subject than you. Lucky for those of you readin ghtis, I’m happy to admit to my limited knowledge. I’m all about discovery. In the words of Dub FX, “Half the fun is learning and I’m having a ball.”
The breweries were on the receiving end of a few jabs as well. It’s no secret that there’s been a race to the top of the IBU chart. It’s partly consumer driven, but it’s also a way to show off. Then there’s the whole hybrid hops and barrel aging movement. I love both, but it seems like everyone wants to act as if barrel aging a beer is some sort of mind blowing experience. I’m a fan of them, but it’s gotten slightly ridiculous.
If there’s one thing I’m completely on board with though, it’s having Mr. T involved with my beer. That, and I’d like to seem someone fight to the death. Is that bad?
Oh, and if you missed the obvious reference to Bud Light Platinum, you clearly haven’t been paying attention.
