I don’t know anything about Connecticut state Rep. Ernest Hewett. But what he says to a teenage girl in this clip is the most bizarre thing I’ve ever heard.
The Day in Connecticut reports that Hewett made the remark, “If you’re bashful, I got a snake sitting under my desk right here” to a 17-year-old intern visiting a hearing at the state Capitol on February 20th.
Connecticut state Republican party members are calling for Hewett’s resignation, saying that the Democratic leadership’s response to Hewett’s gaffe — stripping him of his deputy speaker title — is nothing more than a slap on the wrist.
Listen to the clip below (relevant remarks at 3:00 in) and judge for yourself. It’s probably a simple — yet completely bizarre — misstep on a joke. I’m most horrified that the entire room burst out in laughter. “Oh, that Ernest, so quick on the draw while implicitly referring to his oversized genitals when meeting teenagers.”
