Collisions at home plate are usually reserved for players so it was odd when umpire Greg Gibson came up bloody after a Torii Hunter slide. With Hunter contorting his body to get underneath a tag, his cleat caught Gibson right above the eye.
The result was quite brutal and he was forced to leave the game to receive stitches. Thankfully, his eyesight is still intact—a direct result of Hunter wearing rubber spikes instead of metal ones.
I can’t imagine how ugly this would have looked otherwise.
