by 11 years ago

So Brian Kelly is leaving Cincinnati to become the next head coach of Notre Dame. Actually, correction: Brian Kelly has left Cincinnati and today at 1:30 p.m. will be introduced as the next head coach of Notre Dame. Yes, four weeks before the Bearcats’ Sugar Bowl matchup against Florida. Kelly was coy about his plans last night at the team’s annual banquet, and his players didn’t know that a final deal had already been struck. Three hours later, after the banquet, Kelly met with the team to announce the news, and let’s just say it didn’t go over so well. “He went for the money. I’m fairly disgusted with the situation, that they let it last this long. I feel like there was a little lying in this thing, I feel like hes known the whole time. I kind of had a gut feeling that he was going to stay because he told me he was going to be here. But it is what it is. He made a business decision. –Mardy Gilyard, wide receiver, who walked out one minute into the meeting, with his MVP trophy from earlier in the night in tow.

“We don’t really care what he has to say anymore. He can go talk to his Notre Dame team. We’re ready to move forward with whoever wants to move forward with us. He’s not on the boat anymore, so we’ve got to continue on.” –Ben Guidugli, tight end

Offensive coordinator Jeff Quinn will coach the Bearcats in the Sugar Bowl. “
