Upon searching through her cell phone and computer, investigators reportedly found sexually-oriented messages between herself and the student. To add insult to injury, CBS Pittsburgh reports that Chappell taught a course called “Ethically Speaking” to freshman students. Now that she’s been arrested, the Jeannette School District released part of the following statement:
Without providing specifics, the district said it was taking appropriate action to address the incident and to avoid future inappropriate teacher-student contact.
The school district previously released a statement, reading in part, “The Jeannette City School District Administration was recently made aware of a situation involving possible inappropriate conduct of a District employee of a personal nature toward a District student.”
The statement goes on to say the safety and welfare of students is placed ahead of all other interests.(via)
As a result of her alleged actions, Chappell has been officially charged with institutional sexual assault, corruption of minors and unlawful conduct with minors.
