Tuesday Is ‘Hand Job Day’ in Japan And Of Course It’s Got A Creepy Superhero Mascot

by 3 years ago

Oh Japan, you’ve done it again. Leave it to you to not only create a national holiday called “Hand Job Day,” but to also create a superhero mascot “Masturbation Hero Tengaman” who looks eerily like a Power Ranger to help promote it.

Naturally this “holiday” was created by Tenga, a company in Japan that manufactures masturbation toys, as a way to drum up business. So why was July 21st chosen for this historical occasion?

According to Kotaku

The reason is that “masturbation” in Japanese is “onanii” (オナニー), which is a pun on 07.21 (“o” for “zero”; “na” for “seven” or “nana” in Japanese; “ni” means “two” in Japanese; and here, they’re making a pun on the long vowel mark “ー” by saying it refers to “一” or “ichi,” which means “one.”) So, “Jerk Off Day” is probably more accurate.

It may be more accurate, but it’s not nearly as funny.

Tenga even created a very bizarre, very Japan trailer for their masturbation superhero Tengaman that leads up to a clip that will be revealed on the company’s Web site on Tuesday.

So how will you be spending National Hand Job Day? Wait…never mind…I really don’t want to know.

(Definitely watch this with the sub-titles on…)
