What started as a cop conducting a routine round of questioning with a man walking on the side of a highway, ended in almost the most unfortunate exchange ever. I say almost because although the knife-wielding dipshit got shot, the cop didn’t shoot to kill. He shot to wound, to neutralize the threat.
Thanks to the officer Joshua Hilling’s body camera, we get a first-hand look at just how fucking intense it is when someone pulls a knife on you and you have to, ya know, try to not let your survival, kill-or-be-killed instincts kick in and pepper the guy into the afterlife.
It would seem like the cop did the right thing here. He wasn’t facing a gun, but he also wasn’t facing an unarmed man either.
According to the Washington Post the Hamilton County Prosecutor agrees:
“Joshua Hilling deserves a medal for what he did,” Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters said at the Tuesday news conference, WCPO reported.
Hilling “is one brave individual,” Deters said. “He showed remarkable restraint involving the confrontation of an individual who was clearly armed.”
