Apparently We’ve Been Tying Our Shoes Wrong Forever And This Video Just Mindfucked Me Into Tomorrow
Whenever I see ‘you’ve been doing this wrong your entire life’ videos or headlines I immediately hunker down and go into ‘screw you, you don’t know me, you don’t know how I’m living my life’ mode. Well, as it turns out I actually have been tying my shoes wrong (according to this video) for my entire life, because I’m only a one knot man. Up until this moment I’ve been blissfully unaware of the surgeon’s knot (when it comes to tying your shoes), and I feel like a giant fool. I’m going to go ahead and assume that there’s at least a handful of our tens of millions of readers, but I’m also going to assume that like me you’ve never seen this before:
Sometimes called a Windsor knot or a surgeon’s knot, it starts like a typical shoe knot, but you bring one lace over the other twice. Then, as you’re finishing, you take the loop and bring it over the top before cinching the laces tight. The above video will show you what to do. The end result is a small knot that sits flat and won’t come undone until you want it to.
Now comes the question of ‘what shoes should you be wearing?’ and to that I’ve got a few options for you. I prefer a pair of Allen Edmonds for myself, some of my closest friends swear by Ferragamo’s (I personally can’t wear them, they look weird on my feet), but a while back we had a feature on what the best shoes are for any occasion and you can check that out by clicking the link below:
