As the NHL regular season wraps up and the playoff picture becomes more clear, teams continue to fight for better seeding going into the quest for the Stanley Cup. This matchup is between the two best teams in the Atlantic Division as the Maple Leafs hit the road to visit the Boston Bruins. Here’s what you need to know.
Toronto has been having a very solid season. Positioned well for the playoffs, the Maple Leafs have a record of 45-21 with 10 overtime losses. Mitch Marner has been having a career season with 28 goals and 67 assists. Samsonov has been a brick wall in net with 2.41 goals allowed per game and a save percentage of .915. The power play is another thing the Leafs excel at, converting on over 25% of their power plays which puts them 2nd in the entire NHL in that category. On the defensive side of the puck this team is more effective at stopping scoring than the friend of the girl you’re talking to at the bar. They allow less than 2.75 goals a game, while scoring 3.38 of their own. This team is good and motivated and against a resting Bruins squad definitely have a chance to win.
Now the Bruins are still the undisputed best team in the league. Despite beginning to rest some of their key players like Bergy, Boston still finds ways to win. Now obviously the Stanley Cup is the ultimate goal, but the Bruins genuinely have a chance to break the points record which gives them a reason to compete hard in games that would otherwise be meaningless. Linus is a shoe-in for the Vezina with his 38-6-1 record, sub 2 GAA and over .935 save percentage. Pasta has 103 points, and the additions at the trade deadline have proved to be great moves by the front office. They’re 9-1 in their last 10 and show no signs of slowing down anytime soon. This team owns the Leafs, I’m sticking with my home team and the best team in hockey. Give me the B’s.
