The greatest UFC fighter in history will fight for the first time in three years, and if that doesn’t get you excited, you’re a robot. Jon Jones(26-1) returns to the ring on Saturday night, where he will fight Ciryl Gane for the heavyweight belt. Here’s a little refresher on Jon Jones, in case you forgot. The last time Jones lost was in 2009. Empire State of Mind was the number 1 song, Jersey Shore had just debuted on MTV, and Tiger Woods announced a break from golf following a cheating scandal. Jones won the UFC light heavyweight title in March 2011 at age 23 by stopping Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, becoming the youngest champion in the fighting company’s history. He then proceeded to mow down a procession of ex-champions and future Hall of Famers to reclaim the title repeatedly. Jones owns the UFC record for most title fight wins, with 14, and coming back from many issues outside of the ring, he’s itching to fight again, but this time as a heavyweight. Critics claim that Jones hadn’t looked as great as he once was, citing age as a reason his fights before his hiatus were closer than usual. But fans of MMA claim that Jones…well…he just wanted to give his opponents a chance. Jon Jones is an amazing fighter because he can beat his opponents in a variety of ways. On top of knocking out 10 of his previous opponents, he’s also submitted six foes and has won 10 times by decision. In fact, his last three outings were won by some kind of decision, including a unanimous decision win over Dominick Reyes in his last contest. So, does Ciryl Gane even have a shot?

Yes. Ciryl Gane might not have the prestigious of holding a belt for the longest reign in the title’s history at 1,501 days, but he’s a hell of a fighter. Gane is a French national with a professional record of 11-1. His lone loss came at the hands of Francis Ngannou in January 2022 in a title fight. While Gane isn’t the young kid on the block, he is three years older than Jones, whose 35. Jones hasn’t fought since before the pandemic, and even though he’s regarded as one of, if not the greatest all-time MMA fighter, Jones is only favored by a bit. It seems like oddsmakers are giving a lot of respect to Gane, and experts are too. While it will be a tough fight, as the odds show, a Gane victory is by no means out of the question. This will be a tough matchup that’s very entertaining to watch. While Gane will keep this one close, Vegas likes Jon Jones, and he will win the match. He’s the greatest of all time, plain and simple. Bet on Jones and get up to $1,111 in Bonus Bets from BetFred!
