Presented in partnership with BetMGM
After much uncertainty due to a pandemic and publicized tension between the players and owners, we will finally have the opening of the 2020 Major League Baseball season.
With the season starting late, it will be reduced to just 60 games. Each team will play 40 games within their division, and to reduce travel, the other 20 will be against their territorial counterpart (Example: AL East will play only the NL East).
With so many never before seen factors playing a huge part in this season, it will interesting to see how everything plays out.
Looking at what we know right now, here are the best bets to make before Opening Day.
Speaking of Opening Day, BetMGM is running a stellar promotion for anyone living in West Virginia, Colorado, or Indiana for the Yankees-Nationals matchup on Thursday, July 23. If you bet $1 that either team hits a home run, BetMGM will reward you with a free $100 paid in free bets.

Yankees Winning 50+ Games
With a 60-game season, there is the possibility of a team could wind up with a single-digit loss total. According to BetMGM, the money line on the Yankees winning 50+ games is at +1000.
There’s no doubt that the Yankees have a lot of talent in their lineup. In the offseason, they went out and got even better by signing the top pitching free agent Gerrit Cole.
With such a short season, the schedule plays a factor more than ever. The American League East features the rebuilding Blue Jays and Orioles, while the Red Sox will be minus their ace Chris Sale (Tommy John surgery), and manager Alex Cora was fired amidst a cheating scandal.
Even with all their injury problems last year, the team went 103-59. With a much reduced season, not having to save players from the grind of the season, and the talent they have on offense and in the bullpen, this could help the Bronx Bombers have a dominant regular season.
Over on 319.5 runs scored this season.
Ronald Acuña Jr. As National League MVP
In just two seasons, Ronald Acuña Jr. has shown he has a bright future. The 2018 NL Rookie of the Year has quickly made a name for himself by finishing top five in the National League MVP voting in his first full season last year. BetMGM currently has him at +600 to win the award, second only to Mookie Betts (+500).
The 22-year-old has already proved he’s a top tier player, but this is the season he shows he’s the best.
Miami Marlins Between 20-29 wins
The Miami Marlins are in a complete rebuild. Former Yankee captain and now Marlins’ principal owner Derek Jeter made his presence felt right away by trading the team’s best talent (Giancarlo Stanton to Yankees, Christian Yelich to the Brewers and J.T. Realmuto to the Phillies). BetMGM has the money line of Miami winning 20-29 games at -154.
Last year they were the only team in the National League East to finish under .500. With the high level of competition in that division, it’s going to be tough for them to win many games this season.
Luis Robert Wins American League Rookie Of The Year
Luis Robert made headlines in January by signing a six-year $50 Million contract before he ever saw major league action.
Bet MGM has Robert as the favorite at +400 to win the award.
The White Sox are an interesting team to watch this season. They made real strides to improve the team including signing Yasmani Grandal and Dallas Keuchel to compliment their young talent like Lucas Giolito and Tim Anderson. The team is going to be getting some attention this year and Robert will be the young breakout star.
Roberto Osuna Leads The American League In Saves
The 2019 AL Saves leader will have a good chance to reclaim that honor. According to BetMGM, he sits at +500, just behind Aroldis Chapman (+400). With Chapman most likely not available to start the season due to testing positive for Covid-19, this will give Osuna the opportunity to get a head start on that saves title.
