Nike’s New Golf Commercial Featuring Tiger Woods And Rory McIlroy Is Incredibly Inspirational
Fucking hell. This commercial could have been about me and Tiger Woods. Provided that I had held up my end of the bargain and developed any talent whatsoever after the age of 17. #YeahIPeakedInHighSchool
In all seriousness, though, IT COULD HAVE BEEN.
Wait. That’s not what I wanted to say.
What I meant to say was that this commercial, entitled Ripple, represents the ripple effect of greatness handed down from generation to generation. In golf’s case, the flame in recent history has been passed from Tiger Woods to Rory McIlroy, as the latter pursues the greatness achieved by the former. It’s the classic tale of student becoming the master.
Here’s what Tiger and Rory had to say about Nike’s new spot:
Rory McIlroy: “It’s been an incredible journey for me, going from massive fan to competitor. To think that not too long ago I was that little boy watching him on TV to where I am now. It’s been a cool journey and I’m very lucky I get to compete with and against him because he inspired me as a kid and he inspires me now. He’s the best player I’ve ever seen.”
Tiger Woods: “It’s neat because I’ve been able to be a part of different generations of competitors. Now I’m competing against the younger ones. It helps me train a little harder, because these guys are athletic.”
