Stephen A. Smith and Michael Irvin started trending on Monday after a Saturday Night Live sketch poking fun at ESPN’s First Take started to go viral on Twitter. It’s truly impressive how they managed to nail these personalities on SNL, it is possibly some of their finest work in year. It somehow didn’t make the actual show, it’s only available online and was cut from TV.

I’ve been pretty tough on Stephen A. Smith at various times because of how his hot takes tend to always take the same format. In recent years, I’ve come around to his TV persona and no longer actively avoid him anytime he appears on my TV but this Saturday Night Live takes me back to the days of ‘yup, this is exactly what Stephen A. Smith segment looks like.’

SNL‘s Chris Redd plays Stephen A. Smith and Kenan Thompson does a spot-on impersonation of 3-time Super Bowl champ Michael Irvin. Then guest host Will Forte comes off the top rope as pretty much every sports blogger that gets featured on TV (you know who I’m talking about). Fans were loving this sketch, the ESPN crew loved it, and there are some great reactions below.
