Does MLB Have It Out For The Tampa Bay Rays? Players Joke About ‘Random’ Drug Tests On Twitter
On the same weekend that the New York Yankees solidified the most dangerous MLB offense in years the Tampa Bay Rays were getting hit with repeated blood tests for performance-enhancing drugs. Why? It’s not exactly clear. The Rays had a formidable offense last season. They scored a shit ton of runs. But that was in August, why bother ‘random’ testing them now?
Several players got hit with repeated ‘random’ drug tests and shared the news on Twitter which quickly turned from lamenting about the league’s totally random policies to joking about the homegrown speed of Indiana’s prospects:
Chris Archer is one of the best-known players in the league. He’s an excellent booth commentator. Here’s how players responded to his testing:
Seeing professional athletes joke about drug tests on Twitter makes me slightly uncomfortable given how it seems like over 50% of your heroes have tested positive at some point or another. But in this case (as a Rays fan), it’s almost comforting to see them joke about these tests because it leads me to believe there’s absolutely nothing to hide.
After the massive explosion in offense from the Tampa Bay Rays last season compared to the past decade it’s not surprising that the MLB would come to test them. What is surprising is how they’d hit the players with repeated tests, within the same week, and pretend like there was anything ‘random’ about it at all.
