Wall Street Bond Trader Gets a Chance to Be NHL Goalie for a Day
Adam, 26, was at his job on the trading floor when he got a call from Marty around 10:30 am and didn’t hesitate to jump on the opportunity:
“I got the text and I got the missed phone call, so I knew something was up. My boss was like, ‘It’s slow on the trading floor. Opportunity of a lifetime. Get out there.’ … Had my [goalie gear] in the weight room, grabbed it and was here in a flash,” he told the Miami Herald.
After hauling ass to get the MSG, Adam made it in time to catch half of the hour-long workout. Despite his experience playing at both BC, in the minors, and in a Wednesday night Chelsea Piers beer league he plays in, Adam said it was a whole new world playing against the Panthers best shooters. According to Panthers’ Coach Pete DeBoer and rookie Keaton Ellerby, he manage to hold his own out there. This kind of situation isn’t as rare as you think, as there are stories of a website editor who backed up Washington Capitals goalie Brent Johnson and a college coach who played backup for the Phoenix Coyotes (also against the Rangers, coincidently). But, that still makes this an amazing experience for Adam. Yeah, it may have only been a practice, but now he can tell his friends he played in the NHL.
Below is a video of Adam taking some shots on the Garden ice, and you can see he manages to make a few good saves:
