Fossil

Presented in partnership with Fossil watches…

Over the past couple of decades, the advent of new technology has made things that were once considered revolutionary totally obsolete. Pagers and pay phones might be a thing of the past but others have weathered the storm.

When you consider all you need to do to check the time is take a look at your phone, you’d think watches would have been phased out by now. However, if recent trends are any indication, the very best timepieces continue to remain timeless.

Fossil has brought some fantastic wristwear into the world over the years and their current lineup is no exception. Whether you’re looking for a smartwatch, a classic piece, or something in between, they’ve got what you need at an affordable price point.

We took a look at what they had to offer, and while it’s impossible to pick a favorite, it’s hard to go wrong with any of these.

Here are our picks for the best Fossil watches under $200.

Explorist

Fossil

One of my biggest problems with a lot of the smartwatches on the market today is that it’s hard to find one that doesn’t yell “LOOK AT ME! I’M A SMARTWATCH! I WANT YOUR ATTENTION!”

Fossil’s The Explorist watch solves that problem, combining a classic look with the latest tech, resulting in one of the best Fossil watches on the market. Once you wrap the smoke-colored stainless steel bracelet around your wrist, you’ll be able to track your heart rate and harness its GPS capabilities to keep tabs on your pace and laps while getting your run on.

You can also take advantage of Bluetooth to pair it with your phone to get notifications, customize your watch face, check the weather, and use its built-in microphone to control its many features (more of which we’ll get to in a second).

Oh, it’s also swimproof, so feel free to rock it in the pool and shower if you can’t bear the separation anxiety that comes with being apart.

Venture

The Venture is slimmer and a bit sleeker than the first entry on this list but it manages to cram all of the same features into a slightly smaller package.

I didn’t want to overwhelm you with info right off the bat but both the Explorist and the Venture boast a number of clutch specs in addition to the ones I mentioned above. You can also get alerts and reminders, download music to sync up with your headphones, and take advantage of its LED flashlight.

If you ever find yourself without a wallet (or are too lazy to take yours out) you can also link it to Google Pay and make a purchase with a wave of the wrist.

Fossil’s smartwatches are also designed to make sure you don’t have to worry about constant recharging. It only takes an hour to get back to 80% which is about as clutch as Jordan during the Flu Game.

Commuter

Fossil

If you’re not a fan of all this newfangled technology but still want to dip your toe into the smartwatch waters then you don’t need anything else but the Commuter.

The smoke stainless steel face and mesh bracelet pair together as perfectly as the smooth melodies of Hall and Oates (although there are other straps available if you so choose). If you were just looking at it, you’d have no idea what’s hiding inside, when – in actuality – it’s one of the best Fossil watches out there.

This hybrid smartwatch sports a fitness tracker that keeps tabs on steps, distance, and calories. As is also the case with the previous two, you’ll receive a subtle buzz whenever you get a notification and the watch’s three buttons can be programmed to help you easily control the features you use the most.

As the name suggests, the Commuter is perfect for the traveler on the go. It automatically changes time zones, has a battery that stays charged for up to a year, and can even tell you how long it will take you to get from one place to another.

If you want the best of both worlds the Commuter is here to give you exactly that.

Minimalist

Fossil

If you’re like me, just looking at a picture of this watch is the only thing you need to convince yourself to pick one up, but if you still need some convincing I’m more than happy to persuade you.

The Minimalist watch by Fossil is a classic quartz timepiece featuring two hands and a smaller dial to track the seconds. Some people want their watch to attract as much attention as possible but if you’re a fan of subtlety the monochrome face and black leather strap are an unbeatable combination.

It’s also pretty water resistant, so you can wash dishes or chill in the hot tub for a little bit without having to worry about your pride and joy getting ruined.

Chase Timer

When I got my first look at the Chase Timer, I was immediately transported into a lavish, wood-paneled office— a room lined with leatherbound books no one has ever opened that’s also home to a large ship in a bottle and a globe that rolls back to reveal a bar stocked with single malts.

The Chase Timer features a brushed black face sporting two smaller chronographs, with three buttons that allow you to track hours, minutes, and seconds. There are a variety of strap options but I have a special place in my heart for the whisky leather.

If you’re looking for a perfect balance of casual and classy it’s hard to go wrong with this one.
