I’ve always said the most satisfying feeling you can get from a video game is scoring a goal in FIFA, but landing a solid knockout punch in the UFC games is a close second. There’s just something about watching a virtual fighter crumple to the mat that really does it for me.
I’ve wasted countless hours playing the first two installments of the game, and I have no doubt I’m going to spend way too much time on my couch when UFC 3 drops. If the trailer is any indication, it’s will undoubtedly be the best version to date.
The cover athlete is none other than Conor McGregor, who is pictured holding the lightweight belt he currently owns in addition to the featherweight title he surrendered last year.
McGregor hasn’t fought in the UFC since November 2016, but Dana White said he expects him to return to the Octagon by the end of the year (all signs point to the Irishman squaring off against Tony Ferguson at UFC 219 at the end of December).
The trailer also features weigh-ins and press conferences that were absent from previous games that are meant to make the game’s career mode more immersive. However, those are far from the only features to be introduced:
Outside of fights, players will make promotional choices to build hype, gain fans, earn more cash through big contracts and capture the world’s attention. A new in-game social media system allows players to create heated rivalries with other UFC athletes, providing the freedom to take on any type of persona, between cool-headed contender or infamous trash-talker.
UFC 3 is scheduled to be released on February 2nd.
