And here’s your daily dose of all hell breaking loose in a Michigan high school hockey game!
After pulling a player from the Canadian School St. Mary’s College (SMC) out of a post-whistle scrum, a referee is seen in the left side of the frame punching the player he was grappling with in the helmet after the player seems to resist the referee’s instructions. Obviously, laying a hand on a player is NEVER something a referee should think about doing, especially when there’s an entire hockey team clad in pads who quickly run to the defense of their teammate.
Understandably, outraged parents take to the ice as well during the wild confrontation. Now, I’ve been enough bench clearing hockey brawls in my glory days of playing, but never one started by the referee throwing the first punch…

The incident occurred last season during a game between Canadian School St. Mary’s College (SMC) and Sault High School. In the video, the ref tries to get an SMC player out of a scrum but the player resists and the ref appears to hit him. SMC players rush over and start throwing punches at the ref as he’s down on the ice.
As two SMC players are punching the ref, another two SMC players start beating up the Sault High goalie. Fights continue on the ice until coaches and parents rush onto the rink to help calm things down. Police were sent to the arena to restore order and two SMC players were suspended, according to local media.
