Golf Digest’s May issue features a topless Lexi Thompson on the cover staring deeply into the reader’s eyes. It will make people who don’t normally pay attention to Golf Digest pay attention to Golf Digest.
At least that’s how I see the business plan.
Thompson, who this week will attempt to defend her 2014 Kraft Nabisco Championship, is trumpeted as “one of the women who outdrive you.”
And by “you” they mean everyone except J. Camm. No one outdrives J. Camm.
The magazine has previously featured similar covers with Paulina Gretzky and Holly Sonders.
Say what you want about the periodical’s strategy, but let no one say it hasn’t also used a male sex symbol to move product.
