If you see a deal that looks too good to be true, it probably is.
Still, it’s pretty easy to get tempted by what appears to be a killer deal—especially at a time of high grocery prices. While taking advantage of these deals can occasionally be dangerous, most of the time, these bargains will leave you with nothing but disappointment.
One user on TikTok recently shared an incredible deal he saw while driving. Here’s why TikTokers are telling him to steer clear.
What’s Wrong With These Ribeye Steaks?
Across a series of several videos, TikTok user Dave (@yaboiuncledavetv) discusses his discovery. In short, it’s a van that’s advertising 20 ribeye steaks for $39.99.
While Dave says he tried to get the man to pull over by honking at him, he was unsuccessful in actually purchasing steaks.
“He was like… ‘It’s 5:00 on Friday. I don’t have any meat left—but call me on Monday,’” Dave recalls. Dave further says that the man had no business cards or social media, just a phone number.
While Dave describes himself as “skeptical,” he says he’s going to try to purchase the steaks.
“I feel like I gotta see it through,” he shares. “However decent-to-bad these steaks are, I’m gonna attempt to make a passable meal with them.”
At the time of writing, Dave has not been able to buy the steaks. Though he did make contact with the man.
What Are These Steaks?
In the comments section, users were quick to make jokes about the content of these steaks.
“U will be eating raccoon knuckle meat,” wrote a user.
“Crushed up penguin ankles,” offered another.
“Finna be eating kangaroo pouches,” shared a third.
But what are these steaks really made of? The answer is, of course, beef—just maybe not the kind you’d want to buy.
Investigations into similar trucks have found that the meat they sell is generally low quality. Additionally, depending on the company selling the meat, it could contain anything from a tenderizing solution to a mix of rice starch and dyes.
Are These Cheap Ribeyes Worth It?
It depends on your specific circumstances. But it’s more than likely the answer is “no.”
To summarize, the steaks are poor quality, with a news station comparing them unfavorably to hamburger meat.
Not only that, but they’re also fairly small. One user on Reddit noted that the “steaks” can be just 3 ounces, meaning that one is paying $40 for 60 ounces. This means that one is paying almost $11 per pound for sub-par steak. For context, a USDA Prime sirloin steak from Costco is currently $11.99 per pound. A Choice cut is even cheaper at just $9.99 per pound.
Whether one wants to buy these steaks after learning this is their decision. That said, they’re probably better off buying meat from somewhere other than a truck.

Commenters Have Stories
In the comments section, users shared their experiences purchasing from these trucks.
“My husband fell for this one year. Couldn’t give that crap away. 39.99 for straight gristle,” recalled a user.
“They are garbage meat… I got them… paper thin and poor quality,” offered a second.
“I sold this kind of boxed meat for 6 years. It’s not meat glue and it’s not squirrel, kangaroo or whatever else these comments are saying. They will be very thin and come from dairy cows. Might be edible or might not,” detailed a third. “Consistency is not a goal for these guys.”
