I guess if you are going to smuggle almost four tons of marijuana into the United States, you might as well pack them in jalapeño peppers so you can use them to make yourself some delicious poppers, burgers, wings and chili when you inevitably get the munchies.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers assigned to the Otay Mesa cargo facility in San Diego, California seized $2.3 million of weed after a canine team alerted them and they discovered the marijuana hidden in a truck that what was manifested as a shipment of jalapeños.
The truck, driven by a 37-year-old male Mexican citizen, was en route from Mexico to the United States.
When CBP officers searched the shipment, they discovered a “leafy-green like substance” that field-tested positive for the properties of marijuana, according to a press release.
Very proud of our CBP officers in Otay Mesa! Last night they seized 7,560 pounds of marijuana in a shipment of jalapeno peppers and on Tuesday they seized another 10,642 pounds of marijuana in a shipment of plastic auto parts. Well done! pic.twitter.com/4EnoDGXWl3

CBP officers ended up seizing 314 large wrapped packages of marijuana weighing 7,560 pounds mixed in with the jalapeño peppers. They immediately seized the truck and weed.
“I am proud of the officers for seizing this significant marijuana load,” said Otay Mesa Port Director, Rosa Hernandez. “Not only did they prevent the drugs from reaching our community, they also prevented millions of dollars of potential profit from making it into the hands of a transnational criminal organization.”
Damn right. Marijuana may be legal in the state of California, but if you’re going to be selling it here in the States, the government wants to make sure it gets its cut.
