‘Oh My Gosh’: Alabama Man Gets New John Deere Delivered By Home Depot. There’s Just One Problem

Have you ever placed an order online, only for the item to arrive broken? One man was told his Home Depot order was damaged—but the truth is a little bit wilder.

Home Depot has a bit of a mixed reputation online. While some praise the chain’s in-store customer service, others say their handling of expensive items is subpar.

For example, one user virally alleged that, after buying a $1,000 toolbox from the store, he asked two workers to help him. The workers ended up damaging not only the toolbox but also his car.

Now, another internet user has sparked discussion after sharing his Home Depot gripe. Specifically, he’s wondering where this crucial part of his lawnmower went.

What Happened To This Man’s Lawnmower From Home Depot?

In a video with over 16,000 views, TikTok user Scott (@scottydoesntknow80) shows the rear end of a riding lawnmower.

“Home Depot delivered me a brand new mower. So awesome of them,” he starts.

“They drop it off, and they’re like, ‘A little bit of paint’s missing off the hood,’” Scott continues. He then pans the camera over to show that the hood is entirely missing.

“What f—— hood?” he asks.

In a comment, the TikToker says that “we were actually heading to the beach when the delivery guy called and said there was missing paint. I didn’t know it was the whole hood till later.”

What Happened Next?

In the comments section, Scott states that he returned it to Home Depot without issue.

However, getting a replacement from Home Depot ended up being a problem. So, he says he decided to purchase a new riding lawn mower directly from a John Deere dealership.

The model he went with was a John Deere X350, which currently retails new for around $4,099. As noted by Scott, the mower from the dealership arrived with a hood—and a 4-year warranty.

“I’m just happy this one showed up with a hood,” he wrote in a comment. “Home Depot really has fallen off after Tony Stewart left. John Deere dealer ftw.” This comment is referring to a NASCAR driver who raced a Home Depot car through 2008.

Has Home Depot Done This Before?

Home Depot customers have long reported inconsistent delivery experiences.

Internet users have reported having their homes damaged over the course of a delivery. Others have noted incomplete orders being marked as completed or items that arrived severely damaged. In one case, an internet user claimed that they were delivered three broken washing machines and did not receive a refund for weeks.

If you receive a damaged order or an order that’s missing pieces, Home Depot’s website suggests that you reach out to their customer service team directly. From there, the company will be able to organize a return or a replacement.

Commenters Aren’t Surprised

In the comments section, many users claimed to have similar experiences with Home Depot’s deliveries.

“One of many reasons why you spend the extra $100 bill to buy from a dealer,” said a user.

“I learned my lesson not to buy a mower from Home Depot,” offered another.

“Home Depot was absolutely terrible. Trying to get them to deliver my dads smoker was a absolute nightmare,” recounted a third.

Many commenters referenced the idea that the John Deere products sold at Home Depot aren’t “real,” or that they’re simply rebadges of cheap products from another company. This appears to be false—though Scott is certainly glad he opted for an official John Deere dealer for his follow-up purchase.
