20th Century Studios has released the final trailer for the upcoming sci-fi horror film Alien: Romulus, the latest in the iconic franchise created by legendary director Ridley Scott in 1979.

Directed by renowned horror filmmaker Fede Alvarez, who has previously helmed films such asEvil Dead and Don’t Breathe, Alien: Romulus stars Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu.

Let me clarify what I mean by “glory days” in the title, as I’m someone who both wholly defends Alien: Covenant and genuinely adores Prometheus — in fact, I think it’s one of the best sci-fi films of the 21st century so far.

Prometheus and Alien: Covenant (albeit to a lesser extent), were both departures from the largely claustrophobic nature of the beloved first two movies, directed by Scott and James Cameron, respectively. The premise of those films was essentially: “Oh boy, this is bad: there are terrifying, murderous creatures on my ship and there’s nowhere I can run or hide.” Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, while varying levels of good to great, were certainly not that.

So, when I say glory days, I don’t mean quality as much as I mean conceit: Alien: Romulus is clearly returning to the series’ rooting and putting its team of (largely doomed) heroes in the cosmic prison that is a lonely spacecraft.

Alien: Romulus is the seventh film in the iconic Alien franchise following Alien (1979), Aliens (1986), Alien 3 (1992), Alien Resurrection (1997), Prometheus (2012), and Alien: Covenant (2017). Check out the official synopsis for the film below.

“The sci-fi/horror-thriller takes the phenomenally successful Alien franchise back to its roots: While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.”

Alien: Romulus will be released in movie theaters in the United States on Friday, August 16. You can check out the teaser that was released earlier this year below. Watch the other main trailer for the film below.
