Olympic gold medalist Alysa Liu posted an Instagram video dancing alongside Icelandic pop star Laufey, with the two performing the opening choreography to PinkPantheress’ “Stateside” — the song Liu skated to during her gala performance at the Winter Olympics earlier this year.
Alysa Liu and Laufey also have an on-ice connection, as the gold medalist skated her short program to Laufey’s song “Promise” and won the bronze medal in the event.
Liu became one of the biggest stars of the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, as she now has over 8 million followers on Instagram.

Laufey captioned the collaborative post with Liu “welcome to the party,” while PinkPantheress herself commented “OKAAAYYYY,” and the official US Figure Skating account added: “You have our attention.”

The friendship between the pair predates the Olympics, however. In September of last year, Liu attended Laufey’s concert in San Francisco and was spotlighted during the artist’s “Best Dressed Guest” segment while wearing her competition dress and carrying her world championship medal.
“You guys, she’s like the best figure skater in the world. Do you understand what this means for my eight-year-old figure skating heart?” Laufey said at the time — a claim that Liu would back up five months later by becoming the first American woman to win the women’s singles event in 24 years.
Since exploding onto the global stage at the Milan Cortina Olympics earlier this year, Liu withdrew from the 2026 World Figure Skating Championships in March, citing an overly committed schedule and inadequate preparation time after the Olympics.
She’s also made appearances on national programs such as The Tonight Show, Today, 60 Minutes, and presented an award to Taylor Swift at the iHeartRadio Music Awards in late March.
