‘If You Have A Package And You Know It’s On The Way…’: Ohio Amazon Driver Calls Out Homeowners For This Common Customer Behavior

An Amazon driver from Ohio shared a suggestion to homeowners that could prevent injury and legal action. Others shared their experiences with irresponsible customers making deliveries dangerous.

In a video with over 56,000 views, TikToker and Amazon worker Meechy (@meechy.ross) wears an Amazon delivery uniform and sits in his car.

“Hey, if you have a package and you know it’s on the way, I’m just throwing this out there,” he says. “Here’s an idea: Put your dog up.”

The caption continues, “I’m just saying help me help you.”

Can Unleashed Pets Make Amazon Deliveries Dangerous?

While doting pet owners may not view their dog as dangerous, tragic incidents serve as a warning to keep drivers safe during deliveries.

In 2022, a Missouri Amazon driver was attacked by two dogs that had been left unsupervised in the resident’s yard, according to NBC News. The dogs were shot by the sheriff’s department after the incident.

On Reddit, dog owners share the complex aftermath of their pets going after delivery drivers.

One owner on r/AmazonDSPDrivers said their dog got out of the house and bit an Amazon driver on the ankle. They asked what to expect following the incident.

In the comments of the post, others said they’ve heard of Amazon drivers suing, even for minor injuries inflicted by unsupervised animals.

“Better have good homeowners’ insurance. If he’s smart, you’ll be sued. I saw someone in this subreddit get a 50k settlement for a bite similar to the one you described,” a commenter suggested.

Another wrote, “I was attacked quite badly by a dog due to an incompetent owner, like you – you probably will be sued, and the driver will likely seek compensation – I hope the driver is doing well.”

In an email to BroBible, an Amazon spokesperson said, “No driver is required to complete a delivery if they feel unsafe, and they can mark a delivery as unsafe if a pet is in the area.”

How Did Amazon Customers Respond?

In the comments, many Amazon customers with dogs say they take extra precautions to keep their pets away from drivers.

“I promise she’s inside and can’t get out. I know she’s very Loud. But she is always contained,” one wrote.

Another shared, “We had a Shepard who would never hurt anyone and loved meeting new people. I ALWAYS put her up when we expected a delivery. Not everyone likes animals and some people are scared of them.”

An Amazon spokesperson told BroBible that it is “testing a new feature in the delivery app to automatically notify some customers before the driver’s arrival, reminding them to secure dogs and prepare a safe and well-lit environment for delivery.” Customers can also mark that they have a dog in the app.

Other delivery drivers appreciated the TikToker’s PSA and shared how they handle deliveries when they see an unattended dog.

“I’m a rural carrier and I appreciate this post. I think most people just generally don’t think about it. But it helps us carriers feel safe and do our job better,” a commenter wrote. “Because trust me we don’t want those packages in our trucks at the end of the day. We want them delivered.”

A second joked, “I’ll throw it out the window in the front yard and get the pic with the dog in it Idgaf.”

BroBible reached out to Meechy via Instagram direct message for further comment.
