Most people have probably seen videos of monster trucks crushing cars in a controlled environment, but we’ve been treated to a clip of one doing exactly that while creating a terrifying scene at an auto show that was held in Texas last weekend.

Saint Jo, Texas is the site of the semiannual gathering known as Rednecks with Paychecks, which gives attendees the chance to take advantage of the 1,200 acres of land designed to accommodate the off-road vehicles that serve as the primary attraction.

The most recent iteration of Rednecks with Paychecks, the 2024 Fall Mud Crawl, kicked off on September 19th, but some people who assembled on the grounds last Friday night found themselves thrust into a scary situation courtesy of a monster truck that was filmed wreaking havoc after its driver decided to escalate an already heated situation.

Dalene Jackson, the woman who filmed the video, hopped on TikTok to provide a bit more context, saying she arrived in the area at the tail end of the confrontation between other people in the vicinity and the owner of the monster truck, who apparently had threatened to run them over before deciding to try to follow through on that promise (she noted he hit even more vehicles while continuing the rampage after she stopped filming).

According to KTSM, two people were hospitalized with injuries they suffered after being hit by the monster truck, and the driver—36-year-old Jonathan Earl Reid—was charged with five counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and was released on $200,000 bond after being arrested and booked.

Based on the accounts of witnesses who were interviewed by members of the Montague County Sheriff’s Office, the situation unfolded after Reid allegedly hit a UTV with his truck, and he asserts he was the victim of assault and was simply trying to flee the people who’d start throwing rocks and beer cans at him.

As the outlet notes, this is just the latest in a string of incidents that have occurred at Rednecks with Paychecks since it was first held in 2011, and it’s easily the most harrowing.
