Armie Hammer hasn’t been in a movie since 2022’s Death on the Nile (which was filmed in 2019) due to allegations of abuse, including some that involved allegations of cannibalistic desires.

Armie Hammer, however, despite acknowledging that the allegations caused a “career death,” says that he’s grateful for the life-changing accusations.

During an interview on the Painful Lessons podcast, Hammer said that the allegations of cannibalism were “hilarious” and “bizarre.”

“People called me a cannibal, and everyone believed them. They’re like, ‘Yep, that guy ate people,’” Hammer said. “Like what? What are you talking about? Do you know what you have to do to be a cannibal? You have to eat people! How am I going to be a cannibal?! It was bizarre.”

Although the allegations essentially ended his career — he was dropped by his representation and exited several movies — Hammer says that he’s “grateful” for what happened to him.

“Even in the discrepancies, in whatever it was that people said, whatever it was that happened, I’m now at a place in my life where I’m grateful for every single bit of it,” Hammer said on the podcast.

Prior to the career-ending accusations, Hammer was known for his work in projects suc as The Social Network, J. Edgar, The Lone Ranger, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., On the Basis of Sex, and more.

Given the rise of Glen Powell in recent years, it’s likely that even if Hammer didn’t flame out of the business due to cannibal accusations, he would have been market-corrected by the 35-year-old rising star either way.
