In what looked like a scene out of an action movie, over 40 police vehicles shut down Interstate 285 in Atlanta on Tuesday after a wild police chase led to an alleged gunman being arrested following a PIT maneuver.

The suspect, who was quickly apprehended after their vehicle came to a stop, was not named. DeKalb County police claim the suspect shot at Avondale Estates police while they were driving away, and they returned fire. Pictures and video from the scene show dozens of police vehicles bringing the freeway to a halt while the alleged getaway vehicle sit upside down in a ditch.

DeKalb police told reports that they responded to calls shortly before 1:30 p.m. claiming a man who was flashing a gun and threatening people in the parking lot of a McDonald’s near the 4000 block of Memorial Drive in metro Atlanta.

“Once on scene, the suspect pulled a gun on the officer, at which point the officer responded with her gun drawn,” a police representative stated. “The suspect, after being challenged, then sped away from the scene in a vehicle later determined to be stolen, hitting multiple vehicles in the process, including some Avondale PD units.”

The incident caused police to completely close I-285 near I-675 for several hours on Tuesday afternoon. The interstate eventually reopened three hours after the arrest.
