The brother of Aubrey Plaza’s late ex-husband has publicly called her a cheater following reports that she is expecting a child with fellow actor Christoper Abbott. The pregnancy announcement came over a year after the death of her ex-husband Jeff Baena, from whom she had been separated since September 2024.

After news broke that Aubrey Plaza was expecting a child with Christopher Abbott, Jeff’s surviving brother Brad Baena took to Instagram to accuse Plaza of “always” being a “cheater.”

The brother of Aubrey Plaza’s late ex-husband Jeff Baena took to Instagram to call her a cheater following pregnancy announcement

On his Instagram, Baena shared a screenshot of a headline about Plaza’s pregnancy and captioned the post “once a cheater, always a cheater” while also framing Plaza’s pregnancy as “instant karma” roughly 15 months after his brother’s death.

Not everyone seems to agree with Baena, however, as the following take also went viral on social media:

“It’s so f—– up that her wackadoo ex killed himself to punish her but she found a hot man to start a family with and is pregnant at 41. Good for her. People on here think you should become an Italian widow, wear only black, and never f— anyone again.”

Baena, 47 years old, was found dead at a Los Angeles home on January 3, 2025, with the L.A. County Coroner’s Office ruling his death a suicide. Plaza and Baena — who began dating in 2011 and got married in 2021 — had quietly separated in September 2024 due to “marital difficulties.”

As for Plaza and Abbott, the pair first met met on the set of the 2020 film Black Bear and later appeared together in an off-Broadway revival of Danny and the Deep Blue Sea in 2023.

Plaza most recently appeared in the Ethan Cohen film Honey Don’t!, while Abbott was last seen starring in The Testament of Ann Lee.
