Unfortunate Circumstances Left Aubrey Plaza With Her Second Torn ACL At WNBA All-Star Game

Aubrey Plaza will not be on the hardwood for awhile. She is out indefinitely with a Torn ACL, her second.

The 40-year-old actress went a little bit too hard during practice…

Plaza, of course, is not on a WNBA roster. However, she is a huge fan of the league and takes every opportunity to get some shots up whenever possible. Even after the Finals last year!

Unfortunately, her most recent on-court action did not go so well.

Plaza was in Arizona for WNBA All-Star weekend and sat courtside for the three-point contest and skill challenge on Friday night. Her knee was completely fine. Crutches were not necessary.

The same cannot be said for Saturday.

Plaza again sat courtside for the actual game with a drink and crutches in her hand, and an ice pack on her knee. Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe sat to her right.

Thank goodness they were there because their friend needed help! She tore her ACL during a game of knockout at the Phoenix Mercury’s new practice facility earlier that morning.

Cheryl Miller went over to make sure that Plaza was okay and received a big thumbs up.

Vibes were still very high even though her knee was not in good shape. Plaza hopped in on a photo with the two best shooters in league history. However, they didn’t know she was there.

This is actually not the first time that Plaza tore her ACL while hooping! The crazy story first came to light back in 2021.

Plaza told the story again on Friday during a live recording of ‘A Touch More,’ Rapinoe and Bird’s soon-to-be-revived podcast about women’s sports. It happened while she was playing in a rec league, which was the center of a 78-minute documentary, ‘The Pistol Shrimps.’

Plaza was on the Pistol Shrimps. However, she requested a trade to the Spice Sqirls so she could play with her sister. The league rejected her request.

In turn, Plaza dressed up in a wig and goggles to play for the Spice Sqirls in disguise. That didn’t go well.

“I was like, ‘No one will know it’s me. It’s great.’ And then, in the middle of the game, I went up for a shot and tore my ACL on the court in a wig. That’s kind of like the worst-case scenario because I was trying to go undercover, and I just snapped my knee in half, basically.

I had to be carried off the course, and that’s when all eyes were on me. People started to wonder, ‘Is that a wig? What’s going on over there?'”

If that wasn’t funny enough (except for the injury part), Aubrey Plaza forced the trade to the Spice Sqirls by announcing the move on SportsCenter with Kenny Mayne. It was just like LeBron James when he announced his ‘Decision’ to play for Miami.

Plaza obviously healed up from the torn ACL and was back on the court about a year later. She is going to have to go through the recovery process again after WNBA All-Star weekend!
