Actor Barry Keoghan has spoken out about abuse he receives online about his looks. The Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man star says the criticism is taking a toll on his psyche.

According to Barry Keoghan, the amount of online “abuse” that he’s received on social media has led him to not want to go out in public.

During a recent interview on SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Up to promote Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Manwhich is now streaming on Netflix, Keoghan detailed how the commentary about his appearance online is affecting his mental and emotional state.

Actor Barry Keoghan says that the abuse he receives online about his appearance makes him not want to go outside anymore

“There’s a lot of abuse of how I look, and it’s kind of past the point of — you know, everyone goes through that… but it’s made me shy away. It’s made me really go inside myself, not want to attend places, not want to go outside,” Keoghan explained.

“I say this being absolute pure and honest to you. It’s becoming a problem… I don’t have to hide away ’cause I am hiding away… I actually don’t go to places because of these things. When that starts leaking into your art, it becomes a problem, because then you don’t want to even be on screen anymore.”

The abuse Keoghan receives online intensified after his split from pop star Sabrina Carpenter, with rumors suggesting that on the closing night of Carpenter’s biggest tour date in LA, Keoghan was spotted getting close with a blonde LA-based influencer named Breckie Hill at San Vicente Bungalows.

In the aftermath, Keoghan says he deleted his Instagram because he had been “dragged across the internet” and that there were “absolute lies, hatred, disgusting commentary” about his appearance, character, and how he is as a parent.
