Boston BFFs Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are teaming up again, as the pair will star in the upcoming crime thriller RIP at Netflix.

The film will be directed by Joe Carnahan, the filmmaker known for his work on projects such as Smokin’ Aces, The A-Team, The Grey, and Boss Level. Ben Affleck has worked with Carnahan before, as he had a small role in Smokin’ Aces.

RIP is being produced by Artists Equity, the production company that Affleck and Damon co-founded together in 2022. The only plot details that have been revealed is the film’s genre: crime thriller.

“Affleck and Damon were looking for a new project under the banner as Affleck was finishing production on his sequel to The Accountant. Ironically, the two tried to do another crime thriller, Animals, at the top of the year at Netflix, but scheduling with The Accountant 2 couldn’t be worked out and that was put on pause. Damon was first to read the RIP script and was blown away, and quickly got it into the hands of Affleck. Once both Oscar winners were on board, the package hit the market.” [via Deadline]

Affleck and Damon most recently starred together in the 2023 film Air, which Affleck directed, and the 2021 Ridley Scott film The Last Duel.

Later this summer, Damon will be starring alongside Ben Affleck’s brother, Oscar winner Casey Affleck, in the AppleTV+ action comedy The Instigators, which will be released on August 2. Affleck, meanwhile, recently wrapped production on the sequel to his 2016 film The Accountant.

Amidst rumors of his divorce from Jennifer Lopez, reports indicate that Damon has been in Affleck’s corner throughout, offering advice such as telling him to focus on his work.
