In the span of just two weeks, the entire nature of our reality has been flipped upside down, as the coronavirus pandemic has essentially brought the world to a screeching halt.
Admittedly, these are scary and unique times, as even my parents — who are in their late 50s — have said they’ve never seen anything like this.
And while it can be easy to become overwhelmed with the emotion of our current predicament, there are places where glasses can be found half-full.
Imagine, just for a second, that this was happening in the year 1973. There are no video games or streaming services or on-demand movies. There’s no FaceTime or Zoom or GrubHub. There were cable television and books — and that’s it.
Luckily, though — and remember, this is the ultinate exercise in looking at the glass half-full — this pandemic is sweeping the globe at a time where at-home entertainment is at an all-time high. The only problem is that there’s so much content out there that it can be hard to cut through the noise and find what you want to watch. That’s where I come in, as I spent the weekend scouring all of the major streaming services to find all of the best movies for you to watch.
Mind you, best is simply a matter of personal perspective, so I’ve tried to mostly include movies that are not only some of my personal favorites but also widely beloved by critics and movie-goers in general.
And look, I know there are undoubtedly some films I missed. But promise me when I say this — I well and truly tried my best. I am uniquely equipped to survive the work-from-home life and this is the best way I can pass that knowledge on to you all. I’ve always loved movies, and now — perhaps more than ever — they’re kind of all we’ve got.
So, with that said, forgive me, enjoy, you’re welcome, and stay safe.
