A North Carolina cart girl was on the receiving end of a striking proposal. But the reason for it just didn’t make sense.
While cart girls enjoy perks like tips, the role can lead to some unusual encounters. Some customers’ behavior can verge on creepy.
Camryn Coogan (@camryn.coogan) is a cart girl who often shares details about her career with her 70,400 TikTok followers.
But her most recent video, which has garnered 1,739 views, shares one of the more bizarre moments.
Beverage Cart Girl Gets Marriage Proposal
Filming the video at the golf course where she works, she highlighted this moment as part of the wider “put a finger down” trend. “Put a finger down if a golfer offers to marry you because he heard you needed a Green Card,” she said. “Yeah, I’ve been a U.S. citizen my whole life, I don’t even know how that’s funny.”
“But um, anyways, his partner told him that I needed a green card, so he offered to marry me,” she added.
In the comments, one joked that the man was “looking for an excuse,” while another joked they were “next in line.” Others commented with flirty emojis.
Coogan didn’t immediately respond to BroBible’s request for comment via email.
What Are Green Card Marriages?
‘Green Card marriages’ refers to the marriage of a non-citizen to an American citizen. It’s named as such because, if a non-permanent U.S. resident marries a U.S. citizen, they are granted permanent residency in the form of a Green Card.
However, it’s worth noting that if you’ve been married for two years or less, you will get a conditional Green Card. You’ll have to file paperwork for a new, permanent Green Card once the first one expires.
It’s also a legal requirement for these marriages to be genuine. Sham marriages for the purpose of gaining a Green Card are a federal crime.
Cart Girl Reveals Her Pet Peeve
While some customers are doing too much when interacting with cart girls (like offering to marry them), there are also those who arguably go too far the other way. They don’t treat these servers with the respect that they deserve.
An example of what this can look like was described by Halle Minick (@halleminickk) in a TikTok. She started by explaining how she drives up to golfers to see if they want drinks, and they’ll either put their thumbs up to say they’re all good or wave her over if they want a beverage.
However, some customers don’t react with grace. “Every now and then, instead of giving me a thumbs up for ‘I don’t need anything,’ they’ll go like this,” she said, batting her hand.
“They, like, swat me away like I’m a bug. Like they’re shooing me away or swatting me away. Just give me a thumbs up; tell me you’re good. Why are you swatting me away?” she asks. “I don’t know if it’s even a pet peeve more than it just hurts my feelings, she added. “They sometimes literally won’t even look at me.”
@camryn.coogan Men’s sense of humor is so interesting to me lol #cartgirl #fyp
