Once you reach a certain level of radio and/or podcasting fame, you can abandon your niche and talk about whatever the hell you want.
Howard Stern, Joe Rogan, Bill Burr, Bill Simmons, and Stephen A. Smith are a few examples of this ability to ditch specific topics and bloviate about all aspects of culture: sports, politics, entertainment, business, fashion, and so on.
Bill Simmons and Stephen A. Smith were both hilarious reminders of this podcasting diversity this week, as the pair both went viral for the titles of their podcast episodes following a historic week of news in America.
Simmons, who dropped his weekly podcast on Sunday, July 21, titled it “Biden Drops Out, a USA Hoops Six-Pack, and Heat 2 ideas with Bryan Curtis, Tara Palmeri, Sean Fennessy, and Chris Ryan.”
“Simmons talking politics with a side of South Sudanese basketball and a 90’s De Niro film. That’s why he’s the podfather man, truly nobody on their grind,” one tweet read.
“No one’s doing it like this. No one will ever do it like this,” said another viral tweet.

The above Bill Simmons fan clearly forgot about Stephen A. Smith, who dropped his podcast on Wednesday, July 24 with the caption: “Another horrifying police shooting, does Tatum lack aura? Inside the NBA done, more. Newest episode of The Stephen A. Smith Show is out now.”

“This is the wildest sentence I ever read,” said the top reply to SAS’ tweet.
“Possibly the greatest opening sentence I’ve ever read. Stephen A Smith is one of a kind,” read another tweet.
Simmons, forever true to form, turned President Biden dropping out of the race into a sports analogy as he compared the situation to that of former NBA commissioner David Stern.
“The whole concept of people not wanting to give up power, and people not knowing when to leave,” Simmons said. “I saw this happen with David Stern in the NBA where he probably stayed like 2-3 years too long, and the last couple years — Adam Silver was ready to take over and he just didn’t want to leave.”

As for Smith, wading into politics is something he’s done increasingly this year, even appearing on Sean Hannity’s Fox News program in addition to discussing political issues on his own show.
