‘Black Mirror’ Is About To Get Even Trippier Thanks To A Choose-Your-Own-Adventure Episode

If you want to compete in the Golden Age of television, your show typically has to be filled with more twists and turns than rides designed to make your guest vomit in Roller Coaster Tycoon.

There are plenty of shows out there that specialize in the unexpected but I would argue none of them to come close to Black Mirror, which has been fucking with minds since it first aired back in 2011.

The series kicked off with a literal bang thanks to an episode that featured the British Prime Minister banging a pig, but if you decided to keep watching after that installment, you got to experience some wild rides like “White Bear.”

There was also the phenomenal Christmas special featuring Jon Hamm that has the distinction of being the most depressing piece of holiday entertainment ever made.

Netflix was nice enough to treat us to two more seasons of the show after acquiring the rights in 2015 because Netflix is a kind and benevolent company that everyone should praise.

All hail Netflix. All hail Netflix.

The newer episodes have been met with mixed reactions but they’ve managed to knock a few out of the park like a roided-up Mark McGwire with the likes of “San Junipero” and “U.S.S. Callister.”

There was also the nightmare fuel that was “Metalhead,” which gave us a preview of what things will look like when the robots from Boston Dynamics finally take over the world.

Now, it appears things are about to get even trippier thanks to an ambitious choose-your-own-adventure episode that will reportedly be a part of the show’s newest season.

According to Bloomberg, an unidentified source at Netflix says the platform will test out its new interactive storytelling initiative when the fifth season of Black Mirror airs later this year.

Netflix has previously toyed with the concept with children’s programming but this will be the first time it’s employed on a series of this magnitude.

Details are scarce but if prior episodes of Black Mirror are any indication things are going to get real weird real quick.
