‘Strict Carnivore’ Orders Blue Steak At Ruth’s Chris Steak House. Then She Cuts Into It: ‘It’s Like They Take It As An Insult’

A woman went to a fancy steak restaurant and ordered hers “blue,” or ultra-rare. However, she was disappointed when she saw the inside of the steak.

In a video with over 7 million views, TikToker and self-described “strict carnivore” Miss Meat (@misssmeatt) sits at a booth at Ruth’s Chris Steak House. She looks down at the steak and cuts it in half.

On-screen text reads, “POV: [You’re] at a fancy restaurant and order blue.”

As she cuts into the steak, her facial expression turns disappointed. She picks up a slice and turns it to the camera. She speaks to another person off-camera, questioning the doneness of the steak.

The center is light pink, and the steak seems to be cooked to medium-rare.

The caption reads, “Wyd? I’m sending back.” In another clip from the meal, she says that “They understood the assignment the second time.”

What Is A Blue Steak?

Blue steak is the rarest level to safely cook the meat. Some restaurants don’t even offer the option, as the steak has to be cooked precisely to achieve this.

Cooking a blue steak typically involves searing each side of the steak at a high temperature for just one minute, leaving the center cool and barely cooked, according to Daily Meal. Then, the meat is left to sit briefly to gradually heat the center without cooking the meat to a standard rare level.

The “blue steak” is actually a deep purple or red, close to the color of uncooked meat.

On the r/steak subreddit, blue steak fans suggested that the doneness level should be reserved for high-quality steaks to preserve flavor and texture.

Do Restaurants Accommodate Blue Steak Requests?

In the comments, viewers who love blue steak empathize with the TikToker’s disappointment. Many say they’ve also had difficulty getting restaurants to prepare the steak to their liking.

“It’s like they take it as an insult when you ask for a steak blue. Nobody ever gets it right,” one lamented.

Another wrote, “I’ve been in this position many times before. If it’s a high end place I send it back, if it’s just a casual place I’ll eat it.”

“If you consider your selection overcooked ( regarding to the term that you selected ) you need to talk to the Manager or the Chef . Knowing beforehand the selection temperatures in this case for your blue 115F -120F,” a third viewer suggested.

In an email to BroBible, Miss Meat shared that she frequently has trouble getting the perfect blue steak at restaurants.

“Depends on the restaurant but usually most steak houses always over cook it,” she wrote.

Others agreed that the steak the TikToker received was far from “blue.”

“Never seen blue… that’s cremated,” a commenter joked.

“I would definitely send that back!! not even rare, or medium rare… That right there is medium…,” a second suggested.

Another said, “As a blue rare girly this is literally well done for us lol.”
